How it's made // Ashanti Design

Part of this waste is down-cycled into cleaning cloths, insulation material or mattress fillings, but the majority goes directly into the incinerator or ends up in landfill.

At Ashanti Design, the upcycling process begins! Ashanti Design buys off-cuts from the clothing factories. These fabrics are sorted by color, cut into usable pieces and rolled into large balls of cotton. The balls of cotton are taken to weavers in the South African countryside, where they are woven into quality textiles on large looms. These looms are in people's homes, as we used to know in the Netherlands.
Partly due to the modern and contemporary textile processing style of Ashanti Design, this traditional craftsmanship is preserved for future generations.

The colors and patterns of the upcycled fabric are chosen on site by the craftsman behind the loom. As a result, every 'Ashanti' is unique and no two are the same. Bean bags, bags, pillows and colorful accessories are made from the pieces of upcycled fabric.

Ashanti Design believes it is important to increase the livelihood of their employees and to make a positive 'Afronomic' contribution in general. From artisans to transport partners and manufacturers, the Ashanti team is all African.

Cradle-to-Cradle

A plastic-free filling from BioFoampearls. These quality pearls are completely biodegradable and Cradle2Cradle certified. After many years of sitting pleasure, the bean bag can be emptied into the green container. A bean bag to relax in with peace of mind!
Or a filling of shredded flip flops, cutting waste that is released during the production of Ocean Sole images. This gives a firm seat, suitable for a public space or office situation.
